Could you sing with H.C.S.?H.C.S. is the world's oldest choral society with an unbroken run of performances from 1817 to the present. Although one of our aims for the current season is to enlarge the soprano section, all voices are welcome. Current membership is over 140, and we practise on Mondays from 7.30-9.30 p.m. upstairs in the Carlton U R Church (on the junction between Carlton Street and Harrison Road in the centre of Halifax) with a professional conductor, John Pryce-Jones, Music Director of the Northern Ballet Theatre, and first class piano accompaniment from a professional accompanist. Our season is from September to the end of June, with the first concert of the year usually being a major choral work, performed in either the Victoria Theatre, Halifax, or Halifax Parish Church. The final 'home' event is a lighter, Summer Prom Concert. Regular productions include 2 Christmas Carol Concerts with brass band, Handel's Messiah, and a second large-scale choral work in March. The ever-increasing popularity of the choir in recent seasons has produced many invitations for us to sing at other prestigious venues throughout the country, adding even greater excitement and interest to the already rewarding experience of membership. If you would like to know more about the choir and its workings, you can phone or e-mail the HCS Administrator on 01422 374216, e-mail halchad1817@mac.com or simply come to a rehearsal. |
